About Nekton Autism

Our Story

At Nekton Autism, we’re dedicated to making life easier for families and more fulfilling for the people who care for them.

We founded Nekton with two core goals: to make accessing ABA therapy easier for families, and to create a supportive environment where the people delivering care are valued, empowered, and able to thrive. We understand that starting services can feel overwhelming—so we’ve built a process that’s simple, and easy to navigate. Families shouldn’t have to face added challenges just to get the support their child needs.

We also recognized that many providers in the field are doing meaningful work without the guidance, recognition, or support they deserve. That’s why we’ve developed a model that emphasizes connection, collaboration, and long-term professional development. Our behavior technicians and BCBAs are encouraged and supported at every step, so they can bring their best to the families they serve.

At Nekton Autism, we’re committed to care that’s thoughtful, well-supported, and designed to help every child move forward—with their family and care team by their side.

Learn About Autism

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in the first two years of life. (National Institute of Mental Health).

Delays might occur in the areas of communication, social interactions, behaviors and interests, and sensory processing.

Not all autism is the same. People learn and process differently. Autism is a spectrum disorder, which means that symptoms can be mild, moderate, or severe.

Autism is usually diagnosed by a licensed health or mental health professional.

What Is ABA Therapy

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically-based approach to understanding and modifying behavior. It focuses on improving socially significant behaviors, such as communication, social skills, and academic abilities. ABA uses principles of learning theory to identify and reinforce desired behaviors while reducing problematic ones. It is commonly used in the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.

Naturalistic teaching is a method of education and therapy that uses real-life situations and a learner's interests to facilitate learning. It differs from traditional, structured teaching by incorporating learning into everyday routines and activities, like play or interactions in a grocery store. This approach aims to make learning more engaging and relevant, promoting generalization of skills to real-world contexts.
